Important aspects of Website Design

When designing your website, there are many style elements that are important to consider. There is more to creating a page than just throwing some images and text into a pretty layout, and these techniques should help you with the design process.

This is a common rule that is not only used in images and graphic design, but with web development as well. This rule cuts the page into nine even pieces, and it tries to keep the important aspects of the page that you want brought forward near the cut-off lines. This way, important page elements stay near the third boundaries on both the horizontal and vertical axis.

Web development isn’t all about looks, but it’s important to use SEO techniques to help market your page. This is the process of optimisation a site to be picked up by search engines, especially Google. Since search engines are the top method used by Internet surfers to find information, this is very important.

The most important on-page search engine optimisation technique you’re going to use on your web page are keywords. These are specific words or phrases that you expect searchers to type in when looking for a site like yours. Place these throughout your content at about a four percent keyword density, as this is the amount that most popular search engines like to see.
You need to implement alternative text as well. This is text that describes the images on your site. Not only does this help search engines pick up on the image since they can’t see them directly, but this will explain images to blind people that visit your website. Be sure to use a keyword at least once in each alternative text.

Responsive website design refers to designs that are compatible with the wide range of devices and browsers now available. If you resize this window you can see responsive web design in action, media and content change position to accommodate the screen size. When designing your site think about how it might look on a mobile or tablet and how the device can affect the UX (user experience).

It is your choice to add JavaScript to your page. Javascript is the most common coding technique that is used to allow users to interact with the page. There are web building tools out there to help you create JavaScript code. However, this can get pretty complex, and sometimes web building tools can use a little help from a designer for more complicated interactions. If it’s too much trouble, this isn’t a necessary piece to site design and can be skipped.

Of course, there are times when the project at hand is simply too complicated and would need the expertise of a professional web design company. We highly recommend Thomas Design, a reputable web design agency from Swansea, Cardiff & South Wales. They specialize in bespoke and e commerce web design. Well you might be wondering who are we, what do we do and what is our company philisophy?

If so, then you come to the right page! This section will introduce you all to the company founders, explain our aims and objectives (including our company philisophy), background and explain our thoughts of the web design sector.

What is Brighton-Webdesign?

Well quite simply it is an web design agency offering creative web design. Initially, we are offering services, primarily, of web design, but we are hoping to branch our services out, when the time is right to offer other solutions to general company needs. We would like to be seen as general problem solvers, covering anything I.T., whether it is computer hardware, software or internet related.

What is the company’s philisophy?

To help local companies compete in a national market-place and bring them in-line with many of the other companies around the Country. We aim to help broaden their markets and increase their technological awareness and abilities at the same time.

What’s the company background?

We started this company as a small venture to capitalise on the fact that many of the local businesses and companies have not developed an on-line presence. After all, a market can be extended nationally (if not globally) with ease, aided by the web and can bring long-term financial benefits, if developed and maintained well. We hope to provide this solution to many of companies that we visit and hopefully with our help, they can see the benefit of a bigger market-place!

When designing a website, there are many aspects involved that can make it more difficult than first meets the eye. Not only must you be able to apply style elements that will look appealing to the audience, but you need to be able to prepare it for marketing as well. In terms of hardware, any cheap computer or laptop will do. No special specifications required. You can easily find laptops for sale within any price range online.

If you have no expertise yourself then find a creative design agency who can implement your ideas through graphic and digital design. Their professionals will be able to take your notes and branding and turn it into a great website.

There are several steps that should be followed when designing your website, and they go as follows.

Many new web designers like to dive right into their work, and this is the top reason that so many fall flat on their face later on. You need to plan everything out before you start creating your page, such as what type of content is going to be placed on the page, what images are going to be used, what type of background do you want, what is going to be your colour scheme, etc.

By using techniques such as the Rule of Thirds, a technique learned in graphic design, you should already know where everything is going to be placed before you actually put anything on your page. It can be helpful to draw a sketch that represents your page beforehand.
There is a bit of math involved with this step as well. You need to make sure that there is enough room in each line, otherwise your elements may be floated down, which will ruin the entire layout of the page.

The next step is to actually put your design into effect. It is common practice to start at the top of the page, and then work your way down. This is the easiest and most efficient method of creating web pages, and it helps when floating objects.

While in the process, constantly check your updates in your web browser. You don’t have to actually upload your HTM file onto the server, as you can right click and open the file up inside of your browser without hosting it on the server.

You should always do your styling elements on your page in a separate CSS file, rather than do it directly in the HTML. This will keep everything organised and will reduce conflicting errors. If possible, use as few styling elements in your HTML as possible except when necessary.

The final step is another one that many new designers seem to skip. Once completed, you need to go back through the entire project and check for any errors that could be present.

Even if you went through and checked the page after every single change, that doesn’t mean that you didn’t mess anything up after checking. For example, you may have made a change in your CSS file to alter all H1 headings without realising that it would also change a H1 heading you used earlier.

Also, always check your page in different browsers. You should try it in FireFox, Google Chrome, and Internet Explorer. Sometimes, these web browsers require different keywords to do the same thing.

There are a lot of excellent website design agencies in London that will work with you every step of the way, such as Stable Web Design. Whether or not you have your website designed by a website design firm, or do the whole thing yourself, it is imperative to follow these steps to ensure that you get the website that you want.
